Volleyball: Tunisia’s Men to Make Seventh Olympic Appearance After CAVB Olympic Qualifier Win

Tunisia’s men will make their Olympic return after going undefeated at the CAVB men’s Olympic qualifier. Overall, four teams competed in a round robin tournament where the winner qualified to the Olympics. The CAVB Men’s Continental Olympic Qualification Tournament was held in Cairo, Egypt from January 7th to January 11th 2020.

The current African champions, Tunisia went undefeated only losing a single set on route to obtaining the Olympic quota. This included a sweep against regional rival Egypt and wins over Algeria and Cameroon. Egypt finished second where they defeated Algeria 3-1 during the opening day and Cameroon 3-0. Third place was won by Algeria who defeated Cameroon 3-0.

This will be Tunisia’s seventh Olympic appearance in men’s indoor volleyball. Interestingly enough, the nation has been alternating its Olympic appearance with other African nations since 1988. Tunisia will be looking to secure its second ever victory at the Olympic level with its first occurring 36 years ago in 1984.
