Volleyball: The Dominican Republic Books the Final Olympic Quota in the Women’s Indoor Tournament After NORCECA Qualifier Victory

The Dominican Republic went undefeated to win the NORCECA Women’s Olympic Qualifier. Overall, four teams competed in a round robin tournament where the winner qualified to the Olympics. The NORCECA Women’s Continental Olympic Qualification Tournament was held in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic from January 10th to January 12th 2020.

The Olympic quota came down to two nations after two days of the round robin, the Dominican Republic who defeated Mexico (3-2) and Canada (3-1) and Puerto Rico who defeated Canada (3-2) and Mexico (3-0). Going into the final and decisive match it was the Dominican Republic who triumphed as the nation would defeat Puerto Rico in straight sets. Third place went to Canada as they defeated Mexico 3-1 in their final match.

This will be the Dominican Republics third appearance in women’s indoor volleyball. They will be hoping to replicate their previous performance in 2012 where they reached the quarterfinals. Additionally, this was the final opportunity for nations to qualify in this event as all 12 teams are now known.
