Taekwondo: Chinese Taipei Leads All Nations after Day 1 of Asian Olympic Qualification Tournament

Chinese Taipei led all nations by qualifying in three out of the four events at the 2021 Asian Taekwondo Olympic Qualification Tournament. The two finalists in the men’s -68kg and -80kg and women’s -49kg and -67kg qualified a quota. The final was not held. The Asian Taekwondo Olympic Qualification Tournament is currently being held in Amman, Jordan from May 21st to May 22nd 2021.

Chinese Taipei’s three quotas were won by 2017 World Championship silver medalist Huang Yu-jen in the men’s -68kg, Liu Wei-ting in the men’s -80kg and Su Po-ya in the women’s -49kg. Jordan qualified two athletes thanks to the performance of 2018 Asian Games gold medalist Julyana Al-Sadeq in the women’s -67kg and 2018 Asian Games bronze medalist Saleh Al-Sharabaty in the men’s -80kg.

Uzbekistan also qualified two athletes via 2018 Asian Games bronze medalist Nigora Tursunkulova in the women’s -67kg and Ulugbek Rashitov in the men’s -68kg. The final quota was won by Vietnam’s Truong Thi Kim Tuyen whom qualified in the women’s -49kg.

This was the final opportunity for nations to qualify in these weight classes, the final four Olympic weight classes qualifiers will be held tomorrow.
