Zhang and Wang won their intranational match-up to win the singles events at the 2020 North American Singles and Mixed Double Olympic Qualification Tournament. By winning, they have qualified to the Olympics. The North American Singles and Mixed Double Olympic Qualification Tournament is currently being held in Kitchener, Canada from March 7th to March 8th 2020.
As Canada was the only eligible nation to enter in the singles tournament the fight for the single quota came down to their two competitors. In the women’s singles Mo Zhang defeated Hui Huang 4-0 to book her spot to the Olympics while on the men’s side it was Eugene Wang whom won over Jeremy Hazin in straight sets.
The Olympic qualification tournament concludes tomorrow with the mixed double quota to be decided between Canada and the United States.
