Table Tennis: United States Defeat Canada to Win Men’s and Women’s Team Quotas

The United States pulled off the double at the 2019 North American Table Tennis Team Qualification Tournament where they defeated their only competitor, Canada in both the men’s and women’s team events. The North American Table Tennis Team Qualification Tournament was held in Rockford, United States on October 5th 2019.

The women’s team saw the United States overpower Canada by winning all three of their matches in straight sets, including an 11-1 set win by Yue Wu over Canada’s Isabelle Xiong during the third match. The closest Canada came to winning a set was Benita Zhou’s 11-6 loss to Lily Zhang during the second set of the second match.

The men’s team event saw a similar fate as the United States won all three matches though Canada put up a stronger defense. The first and third matches went 3-1 while the second match between United States’ Kanak Jha and Canada’s Jeremy Hazin went to a fifth set, including Hazin taking an initial 2-1 set lead, but in the end Jha won the final set 11-6.
