Qualification Summary
Each National Olympic Committee can enter a maximum of 6 competitors (3 men and 3 women) provided that they are all ranked in the top 30 of the Individual Olympic Rankings, if not the maximum will be 2 men and/or 2 women. As hosts, Japan will be given four quotas (2 men and 2 women) to compete and will be eligible to qualify a third man or woman while four quotas (2 men and 2 women) will be decided by the Tripartite Commission.
For the mixed relay (2 men and 2 women) event qualification quotas will be awarded through the Mixed Relay Olympic Rankings and at the 2021 Mixed Relay Qualification Event. All athletes qualified in the mixed relay will be eligible to compete in the individual events along with athletes qualifying through the Individual Olympic Rankings and the ITU World Ranking which will qualify one athlete from each continent from a nation not yet represented. Should 2 men and 2 women qualify through the individual rankings the nation will be eligible to take part in the mixed relay.
