Qualification Summary
Each National Olympic Committee can enter a maximum of one team in each event (12 men and 12 women). As hosts, Japan was given the maximum quota. The remaining quotas will be decided through qualification events, specifically, the 2018/19 World Rugby Sevens Series, the 2019 continental qualification tournaments and the 2020 Final Olympic Repechage Tournament.
