Qualification Summary

Each National Olympic Committee can enter a maximum of 9 competitors with a maximum of three athletes per individual event and one team of three athletes per team event. As hosts, Japan was given the maximum quota. The remaining quotas will be decided at various events, specifically the 2018 World Equestrian Games, various group qualifiers, the 2019 Nations Cup Final and the Olympic Athletes Ranking released on December 31st 2019. The geographical regions are as follows.

Group A – North, Western Europe
Group B – South, Western Europe
Group C – Central, Eastern Europe and Central Asia
Group D – North America
Group E – Central, South America
Group F – Africa and Middle East
Group G – South, East Asia and Oceania

Additionally, all athlete and horse pairs must reach the minimum eligibility requirements in order to compete.
