Asian Games silver medalist, Yangpaiboon won gold in the women’s 25m pistol at the 2019 Asian Shooting Championships. Additionally, the four highest ranked eligible athletes qualified their nation to the Olympics. The Asian Shooting Championships is currently being held in Doha, Qatar from November 3rd to November 13th 2019.
Thailand’s Naphaswan Yangpaiboon was the best performing athlete during the qualification round where she finished with a score of 590, two more than India’s Chinki Yadav and South Korea’s Kim Jang-mi. As only four eligible athletes reached the finals the Olympic quotas were won by Yangpaiboon, Chinki, Mongolia’s Otryadyn Gundegmaa and Thailand’s Tanyaporn Prucksakorn. Going into the elimination stage of the finals it was China’s Zhang Jingjing whom held the lead, but a relatively poor performance during the second part of the competition allowed Yangpaiboon to take the lead and to win gold with a score of 36. The silver and bronze medals were won by Otryadyn and Zhang respectively.
All selected athletes must achieve the MQS in an eligible event order to compete at the Olympics. The Asian Shooting Championships continues tomorrow with the next medals and Olympic quotas being awarded in the women’s 50m rifle 3 positions.
