Semianova equaled the European record en route to a gold medal in the women’s trap at the 2019 European Shotgun Championships. In terms of Olympic qualification, the two highest ranked eligible athletes qualified their nation to the games. The European Shotgun Championships is currently being held in Lonato, Italy from September 3rd to September 17th 2019.
The qualification round was won by Italy’s Fiammetta Rossi whom finished 118/125 targets hit, five more than her compatriot Jessica Rossi and Russia’s Daria Semianova whom defeated Rossi in a shoot-off to grab the second position. Fiammetta Rossi would however, not repeat her impressive showing in the final as she would ultimately finish fifth. The event and first Olympic quota were won by Semianova whom tied the European record by hitting 45/50 targets. This was one more than Jessica Rossi. The second quota was won by bronze medalist Alessandra Perilli of San Marino.
By winning a quota in women’s trap, Russia is now eligible to compete with a second team in the mixed team event. The next opportunity for European nations to qualify in this event will by at the 2020 European Championships to be held in May. This year’s edition continues tomorrow with medals and quota places being awarded in men’s trap.
