Day 4 of the 2019 European Games saw medals being awarded in the men’s and women’s 10m air rifle. In terms of Olympic qualification, the highest ranked eligible athlete from each individual event qualifies their nation. Shooting at the 2019 European Games is currently being held in Minsk, Belarus from June 22nd to June 28th 2019.
The qualification round of the women’s 10m air rifle was won by Russia’s Yulia Karimova whom finished 2.0 points ahead of Switzerland’s Nina Christen. In the final, Christen initially took the lead, but was eventually caught by 2019 European champion Laura-Georgeta Coman of Romania whom maintained her advantage for the rest of the final to win gold ahead of Christen. The Olympic quota was won by bronze medalist Nikola Mazurova of the Czech Republic.
The men’s 10m air rifle saw 2018 World champion Sergey Kamenskiy top all athletes during the qualification round, finishing with a score of 631.1, 0.9 points ahead of 2019 European junior champion Filip Nepejchal of the Czech Republic. The final saw Nepejchal out in first, but despite making two shots over 10 points was eliminated on the sixth round to finish with the bronze medal. The final two athletes were Kamenskiy and Israel’s Sergey Richter and with another round of two excellent shots it was Richter that won the gold medal and Olympic quota with a total score of 250.8, just 0.8 ahead of Kamenskiy.
Shooting at the 2019 European Games continues with the next Olympic quotas being given out on Wednesday in three events. The next opportunity for athletes to qualify in these events will be at the respective World Cup events to be held in August.
