Shooting: Rhode Makes it Three with Women’s Skeet Gold in Changwon

Rhode continues her stellar season by winning gold in women’s skeet at the third 2019 Shotgun World Cup. In terms of Olympic qualification, the two highest ranked eligible athletes qualified their nation to the Olympics. The Shotgun World Cup event is currently being held in Changwon, South Korea from May 7th to May 18th 2019.

The qualification world record was equaled by defending Olympic champion Diana Bacosi of Italy whom hit 123/125 targets, one more than Kimberley Rhode of the United States. In the final, Rhode went and had a perfect second half, winning gold and hitting 57/60 targets. The Olympic quotas were both won by Italians as Bacosi and 2016 Olympic silver medalist Chiara Cainero finished second and third respectively.

This is Rhode’s third win as she continues her perfect World Cup season. For other nations, the next opportunity to qualify in women’s skeet is split, for European and Pan American nations their next opportunity will be at their respective continental games while for other continents they will have to wait for the next World Cup event to be held in Lahti, Finland. The World Cup event continues tomorrow with the men’s skeet.
