Shooting: Reitz, Geis Finish Top Two in Men’s Rapid Fire Pistol at Rio World Cup

Reitz defeated his compatriot to win gold in the men’s 25m rapid fire pistol at the 2019 Rifle/Pistol World Cup. In terms of Olympic qualification, the two highest ranked eligible athletes qualified their nation to the games. The Rifle/Pistol World Cup is currently being held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil from August 26th to September 3rd 2019.

The qualification round was won by Germany’s Oliver Geis whom finished with a score of 589. This was one more than his compatriot Christian Reitz and China’s Li Yuehong. By being the only eligible shooter to reach the final, Pakistan’s Muhammad Khalil Akhtar qualified a quota for his nation. Also qualifying a quota is South Korea’s Kim Jun-hong. The final came down to the two German shooters, but this time it was Reitz whom finished ahead with a score of 34 to Geis’ score of 32. Li rounded out the medals with a bronze.

This was the final World Cup event for these events. Athletes can still qualify via their respective continental qualifiers or through the world rankings. Overall, eleven nations won quotas at this event with South Korea qualifying three while China, India and Turkey qualified two each.
