The first day of finals at the 2019 Pan American Games saw medals being awarded in the women’s 10m air pistol. The two highest ranked eligible athletes qualified their nation to the Olympics. Shooting at the Pan American Games is currently being held in Lima, Peru from July 27th to August 3rd 2019.
The qualification round was topped by Uruguay’s Julieta Mautone whom finished with a total of 568, one more than Canada’s Yanka Vasileva. The final saw Cuba’s Laina Perez take the lead early on during the elimination stage and held it to win gold with a total score of 237.1. The silver medal and second Olympic quota initially belong to Vasileva, but she was overtaken by Ecuador’s Andrea Perez mid-way through the elimination round. Perez would go on to win the silver medal while Cuba’s Sheyla Gonzalez won bronze.
The next opportunity for Pan American athletes to qualify in this event will be at the World Cup event to be held in August. Shooting at the Pan American Games continues with medals and Olympic quotas being awarded in the men’s 10m air pistol and women’s 50m rifle 3 positions.
