Filip Nepejchal earned his second World Cup victory of the year at the third 2019 Rifle/Pistol World Cup, but this time it was in the men’s 10m air rifle. In terms of Olympic qualification, the two highest ranked eligible athletes qualified their nation to the Olympics. The Rifle/Pistol World Cup event is currently being held in Munich, Germany from May 24th to May 31st 2019.
The qualification round was topped by 2018 Asian Games gold medalist Yang Haoran of China whom finished with a total of 632.5, just 1.3 points ahead of Italy’s Marco Suppini. However, the final was a close affair with the lead generally flipping between Croatia’s Petar Gorsa and the Czech Republic’s Filip Nepejchal. A combination of five excellent final shots was enough for Nepejchal to win by 1.3 points with a total of 250.8. The bronze medal went to Yang. The Olympic quotas were won by Ukraine’s Oleh Tsarkov and Suppini whom finished fifth and sixth respectively.
For other nations, the next opportunity to qualify in men’s 10m air rifle is split, for European and Pan American nations their next opportunity will be at their respective continental games while for other continents they will have to wait for the next World Cup event to be held in Rio de Janerio, Brazil. The event continues tomorrow with medals being awarded in three events.
