Four more Olympic quotas were decided today at the first 2019 Rifle/Pistol World Cup event. Two were awarded out in the women’s 50m rifle 3 positions and two more were awarded in the women’s 10m air pistol. The Rifle/ Pistol World Cup event is currently being held in New Delhi, India from February 20th to February 28th 2019.

The women’s 50m rifle 3 positions saw a three-way tie during the qualification round with the athletes getting a score of 1178. Ties are broken by the number of X shots made meaning Slovenia’s Ziva Dvorsak topped the group ahead of China’s Chen Dongqi and Switzerland’s Nina Christen with 66 X shots made. Christen would however, take control of the lead early during the elimination stage and held it to win gold and the Olympic quota with a score of 457.1. The second Olympic quota went to silver medalist Shi Mengyao of China while Kazakhstan’s Yelizaveta Korol won bronze.

The qualification round of the women’s 10m air pistol was topped by Chinese Taipei’s Wu Chia Ying whom finished ahead of her South Korean competitors; 2018 world bronze medalist Kim Bo-mi and Kim Min-jung with a score of 582. The final was however, dominated by Hungary’s Veronika Major whom took the lead early during the round and was able to extend it to win her second gold medal at this World Cup by 6.7 points over Wu with a total of 245.1. Since Major and bronze medalist Kim Bo-mi have already won a quota the two went to silver medalist Wu and fourth place Kim Min-jung. By winning a second quota South Korea is now eligible to compete with a second team in the mixed team air pistol event.

While the men’s 25m rapid fire pistol also occurred today the quotas were revoked due to visa issues. The quotas will be reallocated to a future World Cup event. While events for this World Cup will conclude tomorrow with the mixed team events, no Olympic quotas will be available. Overall, China was the big winner at this World Cup, winning five Olympic quotas while Hungary won two and seven other nations won a single quota.
