The 2018 ISSF World Championships continue today with only the women’s 10m air pistol offering Olympic quotas. In total, the four highest ranked eligible athletes will qualify their nation to the Olympics. The World Championships are being held in Changwon, South Korea from August 31st to September 15th 2018.
The qualification round was topped by the 2016 Olympic silver medalist, Vitalina Batsarashkina of Russia whom finished with a score of 586, edging the defending Olympic bronze medalist, Anna Korakaki of Greece by two points. In the final, it would be Korakaki who would win the overall event, finishing 1.3 points over Serbia’s Zorana Arunovic. The bronze medal went to South Korea’s Kim Bo-mi while the final Olympic quota place was won by China’s Wang Qian.
While Wang was part of the team that won a quota in the mixed team 10m air pistol event she is still eligible to win an athlete quota here as the athlete quotas won through the team events are considered to be won by the NOC and not by the athlete like individual events are. While the event continues on tomorrow the next Olympic event won’t be held until Thursday.
