Chandela picked up her second World Cup victory of the year in the women’s 10m air rifle at the third 2019 Rifle/Pistol World Cup. In terms of Olympic qualification, the two highest ranked eligible athletes qualified their nation to the Olympics. The Rifle/Pistol World Cup event is currently being held in Munich, Germany from May 24th to May 31st 2019.
The qualification round was topped by India’s Apurvi Chandela whom finished with a total of 633.0 points, just edging out her compatriot and 2018 junior world championship silver medalist Elavenil Valarivan by 0.3 points. During the finals, it was China’s Wang Luyao whom held the initial, albeit narrow lead over the field for most of the round. The event came down to the final shot between Wang and Chandela, whom just took the lead a few shots earlier and held a 0.1 lead. Chandela was able to outscore Wang to win the event by 0.2 points with a total of 251.0. The bronze medal was won by China’s Xu Hong. The two Olympic quotas were won by fifth and sixth place finishers Laura-Georgeta Coman of Romania and Hungary’s Eszter Meszaros
For other nations, the next opportunity to qualify in women’s 10m air rifle is split, for European and Pan American nations their next opportunity will be at their respective continental games while for other continents they will have to wait for the next World Cup event to be held in Rio de Janerio, Brazil. The event continues tomorrow with medals being awarded in three events.
