Shooting: Bartekova Defends Women’s Skeet Title at European Championships

Bartekova successfully defended her European title in the women’s skeet at the 2019 European Shotgun Championships. In terms of Olympic qualification, the two highest ranked eligible athletes qualified their nation to the games. The European Shotgun Championships is currently being held in Lonato, Italy from September 3rd to September 17th 2019.

The qualification round was won by Ukraine’s Iryna Malovichko whom hit 121/125 targets, two more than the chasing pack of four athletes. Sadly, for Malovichko, she was unable to repeat her performance in the final, finishing in fifth. However, she was successful in obtaining one of the Olympic quotas for her nation. The event was won by Slovakia’s Danka Bartekova whom defended her title by hitting 56/60 targets, one more than Cyprus’ Andri Eleftheriou. The other Olympic quota was won by bronze medalist Barbora Sumova of the Czech Republic.

The next opportunity for European nations to qualify in this event will by at the 2020 European Championships to be held in May. The next event to award Olympic quotas will be the men’s skeet, set to conclude tomorrow.
