Shooting: Argiro Equals Men’s Skeet World Record at Al Ain World Cup

The final event of the 2019 Shotgun World Cup saw the qualification world record equalled in the men’s skeet. In terms of Olympic qualification, the two highest ranked eligible athletes qualified their nation to the Olympics. The Shotgun World Cup event is currently being held in Al Ain, United Arab Emirates from April 5th to April 16th 2019.

The qualification round treated us to Australia’s Luke Argiro equalling the world record by going perfect and hitting all 125 targets, an impressive feat for a shooter competing in his first major international competition. However, in the final Argiro missed a few targets and ultimately finished in third. The two Olympic quotas were won by the gold and silver medalist where Kuwait’s Mansour Al Rashedi edged out Denmark’s Jesper Hansen 56-54 to win the title.

For other shooters, the next opportunity for nations to qualify in men’s skeet will be at the next World Cup event to be held in Changwon, South Korea. Overall the Olympic quota allocations at this World Cup event were quite diverse with eight different nations earning a single quota.
