Medals were awarded today in the men’s 10m air pistol. In terms of Olympic qualification, the two highest ranked eligible athletes qualified their nation to the Olympics. The Rifle/Pistol World Cup event is currently being held in Beijing, China from April 21st to April 29th 2019.
The qualification round saw the 2018 World Championship silver medalist Artem Chernousov of Russia and South Korea’s Park Dae-hun finish equal on points with a score of 586, but Park had 31 inner-10 shots against Chernousov’s 26, allowing him to finish first overall. In the final it was India’s Verma Abhishek that took the lead after the first stage and was able to hold on to it for the rest of the competition, winning gold and an Olympic quota. The silver and bronze medals were won by Cherousov and South Korea’s Han Seung-woo respectively while the second Olympic quota was won by fifth place Enkhtaivany Davaakhuu of Mongolia.
By winning this quota, Mongolia is now eligible to compete in the mixed team 10m air pistol event. The next opportunity for nations to qualify in this event will be the next World Cup event to be held next month in Munich, Germany. The World Cup event will have its final events tomorrow with the women’s 25m pistol and women’s 50m rifle 3 positions.
