Suriname

History

Suriname made its first Summer Olympic appearance in 1960 and has mostly competed ever since. The nation missed the 1964 Olympics and joined the United States led boycott of the 1980 Olympics. Suriname sends a small delegation of fewer than 10 athletes to compete at each Olympics. So far, the athletes have competed in athletics, badminton, cycling, judo and swimming. The only athlete to win medals for Suriname is swimmer Anthony Nesty whom won gold (1988) and bronze (1992) in the men’s 100m butterfly.
