History
Puerto Rico made its first Summer Olympic appearance in 1948 and has competed ever since. The United States territory sends a medium-sized delegation whose athletes compete in a variety of sports including, athletics, boxing, judo, sailing, shooting, swimming and weightlifting. Puerto Rico won its first medal in 1948 and has won a total of 9 medals across 4 sports; six in boxing and one each in athletics, tennis and wrestling. Their first and only gold medal came in 2016 where tennis player Monica Puig won the women’s singles event.
