History
Peru made its first Summer Olympic appearance in 1936 though Carlos de Candamo competed in 1900. The International Olympic Committee does not recognize Peru’s participation in that Olympics. With the exception of the 1952 Olympics Peru has competed in all subsequent Olympics. The nation sends a delegation with around 1-3 dozen athletes to compete at each Olympics. The athletes have competed in various sports.
Peru won its first medal in 1948. In total, Peru has won four medals, three in shooting and one in volleyball, silver for the women’s team at the 1988 Olympics. The sport shooting medalists include Edwin Vasquez, whom won gold in men’s 50m pistol in 1948, Francisco Boza, whom won silver in trap in 1984 and Juan Giha, whom won silver in skeet in 1992.
