History
Guatemala made its first Summer Olympic appearance in 1952, but would not return again until 1968. They have participated in all subsequent Olympics, with the exception of 1980 where it joined the United States led boycott. The nation sends a delegation of around 20 athletes to each Olympics where they compete in various sports, most commonly in athletics, cycling, sailing, shooting, swimming, weightlifting and wrestling. Guatemala won its first and only medal in 2012 where race walker Erick Barrondo won silver in the men’s 20km race walk.
