Togo made its first Summer Olympic appearance in 1972. The nation then participated in two boycotts, the African boycott in 1976 and the United States led boycott in 1980. Since then the nation has competed in all subsequent Olympics. Togo sends a small delegation with around 10 athletes competing at each Olympics. The athletes generally compete in athletics, boxing and judo. Togo has won a single medal in its history, a bronze medal at the 2008 Olympic from canoeist Benjamin Boukpei whom finished third in the men’s K1 slalom.
