Tanzania

History

Tanzania made its first Summer Olympic appearance in 1964 and has competed ever since, with the exception of 1976 where it participated in the African boycott. The nation sends a small delegation of around 10 athletes to compete at the Olympics. The athletes generally compete in athletics, boxing and swimming.

Tanzania has won a total of two medals in its history, both of them silver at the 1980 Olympics. They were won by long distance runners Filbert Bayi in the men’s 3000m steeplechase and Suleiman Nyambui in the men’s 5000m.
