Sudan made its first Summer Olympic appearance in 1960 and has competed in most Olympics since. The nation missed the 1964 Olympics and took part in two boycotts in 1976 and 1980. Sudan sends a small delegation or around 10 athletes where they compete in various sports including athletics, boxing, swimming and weightlifting. The nation has won a single medal in 2008 where middle distance runner Ismail Ahmed Ismail won silver in the men’s 800m.
