Liberia made its first Summer Olympic appearance in 1956 and has competed in most games since. The nation missed the 1968, 1976 (participated in African boycott) and 1992 Olympics. They also marched at the opening ceremony of the 1980 Olympics, but withdrew before competing to join the United States led boycott. Liberia generally sends a small delegation of fewer than 10 athletes to compete. The nation usually only competes in athletics with boxing at the 1988 Olympics being the only exception. Liberia has yet to win its first Olympic medal.
