Gymnastics: United States Successfully Defends Women’s Team Title at Artistic World Championships

The United States successfully defended their women’s team title with a spectacular performance at the 2019 Artistic Gymnastics World Championships. In terms of Olympic qualification, the nine highest ranked nations not yet qualified will be given a spot to compete at the games. The Artistic Gymnastics World Championships is currently being held in Stuttgart, Germany from October 4th to October 13th 2019.

The qualification round was won by the defending champions, the United States who thanks to top performances in the vault and floor allowed to finish over five points ahead of China with a total of 174.205. China had a total of 169.161 while Russia finished third with a total of 168.080. Based on the results of the qualification round, the Olympic qualifiers were decided with France, Canada, the Netherlands, Great Britain, Italy, Germany, Belgium, Japan and Spain all booking their tickets to Tokyo.

The United States followed up its top performance in the qualification round with another great performance in the final where they finished top in the vault, balance beam and floor to win gold with a score of 172.330. The uneven bars was topped by Russia whom won the silver medal with a score of 166.529 while Italy won bronze, scoring 164.796 points.

In addition, all athletes competing in the team event will be eligible to compete in the individual events. This was the final opportunity for nations to qualify in the women’s team event. They still can however, qualify to the individual events. The World Championships continues tomorrow with medals being awarded in the men’s artistic team all-around.
