Gymnastics: Final Day of Trampoline Gymnastics World Championships Awards Olympic Quotas for Men’s and Women’s Individual Trampoline

The final day of the 2019 Trampoline Gymnastics World Championships saw medals being awarded in the men’s and women’s individual trampoline. In addition, each nation that had at least one athlete reach the final qualified one quota to the Olympics. The Trampoline Gymnastics World Championships was held in Tokyo, Japan from November 28th to December 1st 2019.

The qualification round of the women’s individual trampoline was topped by 2018 Asian Games champion Liu Lingling of China whom finished first in both routines to earn a score of 106.460. This edged out her teammate Huang Yanfei whom had a score of 105.375. Liu however, was unable to finish her routine in the semi-finals, costing her a spot in the finals. Instead it was Huang whom rose up a spot to win the round with a single routine score of 56.820, finishing ahead of Japan’s Hikaru Mori. By having at least one athlete in the final the following nations have qualified one quota: Canada, China, France, Great Britain, Japan and Russia. The final and gold medal was won by Mori whom had a score of 55.860 while her compatriot Chisato Doihata won silver while defending Olympic champion Rosannagh MacLennan won bronze with scores of 55.225 and 54.820 respectively.

The men’s individual trampoline qualification round saw two athletes with the best performances over the two routines; Belarus’ Uladzislau Hancharou was the best performer during the first routine while defending champion Gao Lei of China was the best performer during the second routine. It was the former whom had a better combined score as Hancharou finished with 115.440 to Gao’s 114.995. A relatively poor performance by Hancharou in the semi-finals saw him finished 13th while Gao won the overall round with a score of 61.460, over one point higher than Belarus’ Ivan Litvinovich. By having at least one athlete in the final the following nations have qualified one quota: Belarus, China, France, Japan and Russia. Gao would repeat his performance in the final where he won the gold medal with a score of 61.705, beating out Litvinovich whom had a score of 61.520. China’s Dong Dong won the bronze medal with a score of 61.050.

This concludes the trampoline gymnastics world championships. The next opportunity for athletes to qualify their nation to the Olympics will be via the Trampoline World Cup Series Rankings expected to conclude in April 2020.
