Brazil’s Caio Souza and Rebeca Andrade won individual all-around gold at the 2021 Senior Artistic Gymnastics Pan American Championships. The event also doubled as an Olympic qualifier where the highest ranked eligible athletes qualified a quota to the games. The Senior Artistic Gymnastics Pan American Championships was held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil from June 4th to June 6th 2021.
The men’s individual all-around was won by Brazil’s Caio Souza whom finished with a total of 84.450. As Souza was part of the team all-around event at the 2019 World Championships which qualified Brazil a spot, he was not eligible to qualify an additional quota. Instead, the quotas were won by silver medalist Paul Juda (83.000) of the United States and Brazil’s Diogo Soares who won bronze (82.700).
Brazil’s Rebeca Andrade was on another level in the women’s individual all-around where she finished first on each apparatus to win gold and an Olympic quota with a score of 56.700. This was over four points ahead of Argentina’s Martina Dominici whom took the silver medal (52.400). As Dominici already personally qualified to the Olympics, the second quota was won by bronze medalist Luciana Alvarado of Costa Rica (50.833).
The only remaining avenue for athletes to qualify to the games in artistic gymnastics will be from the Apparatus World Cup Series. The Pan American Championships will restart next week with events in rhythmic and trampoline.
