Zabelinskaya, taking part in her first Asian Road Championship since changing nationalities showed why she’ll be a force within the continent by winning the women’s road race. In terms of Olympic qualification, the highest ranked eligible athlete qualified their nation to the Olympics. The Asian Road Cycling Championship is currently being held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan from April 23rd to April 28th 2019.
The race was won by Uzbekistan’s Olga Zabelinskaya whom finished the 128.8km race 47 seconds ahead of the 2018 Asian Games champion Na Ah-reum of South Korea with a time of 3:09:05. Iran’s Somayyeh Yazdani won the bronze medal about a minute later with a time of 3:10:04.
As a reminder, the Nations World Rankings will have priority over the continental qualifiers. Should Uzbekistan qualify through the rankings then the continental quota will be passed down to the next highest ranked nation that did not qualify through the rankings. The men’s race is expected to be held tomorrow.
Edit: After the publication of the Olympic Nation Rankings the quota has been reallocated to South Korea.
