China completed the cross-country double as the nation won gold in the men’s cross-country event at the 2019 Asian Mountain Biking Championships. The highest ranked eligible nation qualified a quota to the Olympics. The Asian Mountain Biking Championship was held in Kfardebian, Lebanon from July 25th to July 28th 2019.
The race was close between 2018 Asian Games champion Ma Hao of China and 2018 Asian Championships winner Kohei Yamamoto of Japan. Ma won the gold medal with a time of 1:32:03, fourteen seconds ahead of Yamamoto. The bronze medal was won by China’s Lyu Xianjing whom finished with a time of 1:34:12.
As a reminder, the Olympic Nation Rankings will have priority over the continental championships so while China may currently hold the qualification quota, it may eventually be transferred to another nation should they qualify through the rankings.
