Cycling: Cepeda Wins Pan Am Road Race on the Final Day

The 2019 Pan American Road Cycling Championship concluded with the men’s road race. In terms of Olympic qualification, the two highest ranked eligible athletes qualified their nation to the Olympics. The Pan American Road Cycling Championship was held in Ixmiquilpan, Mexico from May 1st to May 5th 2019.

The men’s road race was won by Ecuador’s Jefferson Cepeda whom finished the 176.4km race with a time of 4:41:35, nine seconds ahead of Colombia’s Julio Camacho. The bronze medal was won by Ecuador’s Segundo Navarrete whom finished with a time of 4:41:48.

As a reminder, the Nations World Rankings will have priority over the continental qualifiers. Should Colombia or Ecuador qualify through the rankings then the continental quota will be passed down to the next highest ranked nation that did not qualify through the rankings. This concludes the continental qualifiers, leaving only the World Rankings as the final way to qualify in road cycling.

Edit: Due to the release of the Olympic Nation Rankings, the quotas have been reallocated to Peru and Panama.
