The third day of events at the 2019 World Athletics Championships saw the first ever medals being awarded in the mixed 4x400m relay. The event will also be making its Olympic debut next year. In terms of Olympic qualification, the eight finalists all qualify a team to compete. The World Athletics Championships is currently being held in Doha, Qatar from September 27th to October 6th 2019.
The heats saw the United States win the first group in a world record time of 3:12.42 while the second heat was won by Poland whom finished with a time of 3:15.47. Also qualifying to the Olympics by reaching the final were Bahrain, Brazil, Belgium, Great Britain, India and Jamaica. The final saw the United States break their world record again to win gold with a time of 3:09.34. The silver and bronze medals were won by Jamaica and Bahrain whom finished with times of 3:11.78 and 3:11.82 respectively.
Eight more nations can still qualify to this event through the world ranking list. Direct qualification spots for the relays will continue with the finals for the men’s and women’s 4x100m relays being decided on Saturday.
